Gingivitis is far from a fun ailment to contract, but getting rid of it at home can be even more difficult than one may think. From the initial infection to curing up lingering gum pain, there are many plans for gingivitis treatment at home that can help you get over this health problem without needing to go see a doctor. First, understanding what causes the disease will help you avoid it in the future. After that, looking into some age-old advice for treating gingivitis at home can give you a glimpse for what to expect.

What Causes Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is the infection and swelling of the gums due to bacteria and poor dental hygiene. Initially, the infection starts out as a build up of tartar (bacteria) under or around the gums. It is at this stage that gingivitis home treatment should begin through proper brushing and flossing of the teeth ever day. As the infection progresses, gingivitis becomes more and more serious. With especially potent infections, some teeth may need to be removed to prevent the infection from spreading to the rest of the face and brain.

Recognizing Gingivitis Symptoms

The stages that lead up to critical gingivitis are, fortunately, very easy to recognize and treat at home. So when considering starting treatment for gingivitis, make sure that you fully understand the symptoms that you are experiencing. These symptoms can include:

  • Redness of the gums
  • Pain of gums around the base of the teeth
  • Bleeding of gums (especially during brushing)
  • Bad breath and taste in mouth (especially in the morning)
  • Base of gums receding from the teeth

Your body will not fall into a full scale infection overnight, so catching these signs early is the best method for how to get rid of gingivitis fast. Most importantly, flossing and brushing daily will help ensure that you’ll never have to deal with the issue of gingivitis. If you’re especially prone to the infection, consider adding specialized mouthwashes that can help kill bacteria.

Gingivitis Home Cures

Treating gingivitis at home is all about killing the bacteria that has been allowed to build up and cause an infection. Also be aware that there are a number of effective, doctor prescribed medications that can help get rid of gingivitis even more quickly than a home treatment can. But if you prefer to deal with gingivitis at home, consider some of these treatments.

To use these treatments, mix these ingredients into warm water and use as an oral rinse. Be aware that applying the undiluted substance directly to your gums will cause stinging and discomfort. Also, even though Listerine is unpleasant, it is extremely effective in fighting the bacteria that causes gingivitis.

Tips for Gingivitis Prevention

Luckily, preventing gingivitis is as easy as brushing, flossing, and rinsing everyday. But having the right tools is important too. First off, change your toothbrushes out every three months with a soft bristled brush. Never brush too hard, as this can injure your gums. Secondly, floss thoroughly according to doctor instruction. Your gums may bleed and be sore at first, but this does not mean to stop flossing. Your gums will strengthen and become healthy over time with regular flossing.

Gingivitis Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments

Gingivitis is an oral ailment that can be extremely problematic if left on its own without maintenance. Luckily, preventing gingivitis is as easy as properly caring for your teeth every day. Flossing is most important along with brushing and rinsing, so don’t skip any of these vital steps twice a day, every day. You can even incorporate several products that will help you keep gingivitis at bay. Doing this, you can expect healthy, happy gums and teeth.

For people who have anxiety issues with paying a visit to the dentist for routine care and maintenance, they may choose to get the services of a sedation dentist who could provide them anesthesia during treatment to achieve a relaxed state which is almost like sleep. They do not lose consciousness and can still have control but could hardly notice the sights and sounds associated with the dental procedures. While dental sedation is ideal for patients with anxiety or phobia over dental visits, this is also ideal for patients who must undergo multiple procedures in just a single or two appointments.

There are three basic methods of dental sedation.

Oral Sedation

In oral sedation, the patient will take one or more pills at home before his appointment. Sometimes, depending on the level of sedative state required for a procedure, the patient may need to take another pill at the clinic prior to getting the procedure done. A procedure that may last longer will normally need drugs at higher doses. Of course, the dosage will vary for every patient according to the medical history obtained by the dentist. If a patient wants a faster route and does not want the inconvenience of remembering to take pills, tablets, or syrups, then he can opt for IV sedation.

IV Sedation

IV sedation involves the use of drugs that provides effect quickly and custom titration doses are possible to meet individual needs.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” is another option, where gas is blended with oxygen to provide a double effect in relieving pain and reducing stress.

In general, oral sedation involves pills that are low-dose and provides anti-anxiety effects. Many patients prefer the oral route, but there are only certain factors that may change the relaxation effects of the pills. Patients have various reactions to medications. The pills may have differing number of hours to take effect. Also, whatever the patient may have taken like food prior to appointment can also affect the degree of relaxation that the patient will achieve. With regards to nitrous oxide inhalation, it is most accessible because most states do not require permits for single-dose anxiolysis. Therefore, many dentists can provide this form of sedation. The gas is also colorless, tasteless and is not irritable. As for IV sedation, not too many dentists can provide this due to the additional requirements needed for dentists to administer sedation through intravenous route.

Sedation Guidelines

Dentists follow specific guidelines before they can ever provide their patients with any of the above options.

1)    Level 1 Permit refers to the qualification of a dentist in providing his dental patients with nitrous oxide or “laughing gas”.

2)    Level 2 Permit allows the dentist to perform oral conscious sedation on top of the “laughing gas”. By this level, the dentist had completed 14 to 25 hours of additional instructional classroom training on oral sedation.

3)    Level 3 Permit is obtained by dentists who have completed 40 to 60 hours of classroom training that allows him to perform nitrous oxide and oral sedation plus IV sedation. There are not too many dental clinics that provide all three methods. The licensing process with IV sedation is more difficult because it is a requirement that not only the dentist is licensed but that his support staff also undergo comprehensive training in IV anesthesia.

Costs Associated With Each Type of Sedation

With a good level of comfort normally found in sedation dentistry also comes with it reasonable costs. As for oral sedation, costs may start from $290 and may go higher especially when nitrous oxide is combined. IV sedation starts at $480. General anesthesia may start from $680. IV sedation and general anesthesia may be billed hourly and so costs vary. Take note that the cost of dental procedures is separate from the cost of sedation. Also, dental sedation is not covered by insurance.

For adult human, wisdom teeth are the last type of teeth to come through. Even though they usually appear in between teen to adolescent stages, some can even grow much later. Theoretically, an adult jaw can accommodate up to 32 teeth. However, at present times the most teeth that a typical person can have, is about 28. This is the reason why wisdom teeth become impacted. In the dental world, impacted wisdom teeth are teeth that do not erupt normally because of insufficient space. They tend to be stuck to the nearest teeth, forcing them to grow in an angled direction.

Impacted wisdom teeth are magnets for colonies of bacteria and food debris because they are difficult to clean. When they appear partially through the gum, they may cause swelling and pain. These impacted wisdom teeth symptoms are unpredictable. They can stay for a long time and may occur intermittently.

To prevent bacteria from proliferating on your impacted wisdom tooth, adapt the attitude of rinsing with anti-bacterial mouthwashes that have chlorhexidine.  Aside from mouthwash, another home remedy is salt and water. Mix a teaspoon of salt with medium hot glass of water. Rinse your mouth with this mixture expertly maneuvering your mouth so the salt can interact with the affected area. Salt has natural agents that relieve inflammation. You may conduct this routine for a couple of times every day. Make sure to apply the mentioned cleaning methods on top of regular brushing and flossing.

If you cannot bear the pain caused by impacted teeth, take paracetamol, aspirins or other pain-relievers. You can easily purchase these over-the-counter medicines at local drug stores.  These impacted teeth care methods are just temporary cure. Their primary aim is to relieve pain and discomfort. It is still best to consult your dentist, especially if such dental problems are persistent. A dental professional should be able to advise you on the next solution which can possibly be tooth extraction.

Some people are born with yellow teeth – they are those whose mothers went through some medications during pregnancy that resulted to their kids’ yellowish teeth. Some people though got their yellow teeth from unhealthy lifestyle like smoking and bad oral hygiene. Whatever the cause is, these people now have the chance to get whiter teeth and a dashing smile with an ionic white teeth whitening system.

This innovative technology, also known as Whitelight obviously uses light to speed up the process of teeth whitening. The most recent technology being used in this system is laser which is very effective in making teeth whiter and more radiant.

This whitening process gets rid of all the embedded stains on your teeth’s surface brought about by intake of certain food and liquid and smoking. It can even lift stains that have been on your teeth for years in a matter of 20 minutes. The good thing about the treatment is it doesn’t leave you with sensitive teeth unlike other treatments.

You can even take this system with you and continue with your teeth whitening endeavors at the comfort of your home. There is however no basis or studies that will tell how white your teeth could become after a certain number of treatments. The process is somewhat easy; one will just put a whitening gel on the surface of the teeth and then activate this gel with an exposure to light which in return activates the silver ions that makes the gel to work on its whitening functions.

If you want to try if an ionic white teeth whitening system works for you, you can get it for approximately $30. The whole set comes with a tooth whitening gel, light with batteries, dental tray, stay white spray and guidelines on how to do the whole operation.
