Who doesn’t want to look sexy and glamorous? It’s what every magazine and ad agency in the country is encouraging, so much so that the race to lose weight fast has become big business. Unfortunately, the only losers in this race are the people who fall for the extreme weight loss fad diets that can literally bring you to your knees because of weakness.

What are these extreme weight loss diets and why are they so dangerous? This is brief intro to some of the more popular ones. It will give you the heads up on why you should steer clear of these extreme diets.

Low Carb Diets

This was the diet trend favorite for many years because doctors recommended it as being safe and effective. Yet today, new studies show that a low carb, high protein diet is extremely dangerous. Why? Carbohydrates is what you need to have energy. This means you will tend to get tired more easily, and not feel like doing much of anything a lot of the time, including exercise. This will result in poor blood circulation, poor memory, fatigue, muscle and joint pains, kidney and heart problems, including higher risk for cancer.

Soup and Other Liquid Diets

There are so many of these liquid diets. To name a few: watercress soup, lemonade with maple syrup and cayenne pepper, cabbage soup, and only soup after six p.m. While this idea may have come from what doctors prescribe to their post-operation patients, it is only for a couple of days while the body recovers.

The problem with liquid diets is that you are literally starving your body. Definitely you will experience some amount of weight loss – but at what price? Eventually, your body will start to burn muscles since there is no fat, and your metabolism will slow down. When this happens, you will start to gain weight – and fast!

It doesn’t end there. Over time, you will discover that the liquid diet you did a few years back will come to haunt you with lung and kidney problems, as well as a problem with your immunity system. You could even start having a heart condition, and this could certainly lead to an early death.

Celebrity Baby Food

Just because a celebrity is eating baby food to lose weight does not mean that it is good for you. Not everything a celebrity does is right. In fact, many times, it’s the complete opposite.

One small jar of baby food is about 50 calories only, and if you replace one jar for a meal, then you are starving your body and mind. There’s a reason why babies eat more often, and drink a lot of milk. However, if you just eat 2 jars of baby food and 1 meal a day, then you will end up starving yourself to death. Not only that, in the process, you will become the most intolerable person to be around because of your moodiness and ill temper.

Extreme weight loss is really not a good objective – if the timeframe is very short. You need to talk to a doctor about your concerns, and get a weight plan from him. You could also go herbal, and try some of the healthier alternatives.
