The fad concerning green tea is growing ever more popular but does it live up to all the hype?  Are green tea weight loss plans the magic pill we have all been looking for?

There is indeed an ever growing body of evidence pointing to a large number of benefits that come from drinking green tea.  I’m not here to contest whether or not green tea is beneficial but I would like to caution those who think it is a miracle for losing weight.  The bad news is you will still need to do what ultimately everyone has ever needed to do and that is, exercise and eat right.

I know it could be debated until the end of time about exactly how much exercise and what exactly is “eating right”, but one thing is for sure, you know if you are or not.  So the question becomes, are there some things that may be helpful in my quest in the battle of the bulge?  The answer is yes, there are a few things that can help.

One of the ways green tea is helpful is that it is a thermogenic.  What is a thermogenic you ask?  A thermogenic is a substance that causes your metabolism to increase thus raising your body temperature.  This causes you to lose weight because you burn a few extra calories, maybe 70 or 80, not a ton but helpful. Ultimately there is only one way to lose weight and that is to take in fewer calories than you burn.  Green tea weight loss occurs on the burn side, which assuming you take in the same number of calories; you will lose slightly more weight drinking green tea.

Not exactly magic but it does help, the trick is to not fall for the marketing hype.  Green tea also contains polyphenols, antioxidants that help aging and fighting cancer.  Although not a magic pill, green tea is definitely a viable alternative to coffee that is usually loaded with a ton of cream and sugar.
