Tooth whitening at a dental professional’s office can be a lengthy and very costly process. Fortunately, there are a number of tricks to whiten your teeth in your own home, involving very little if any cost.

Teeth whitening tricks can be found in abundance on the Internet. Some of these are shams, but there are several reliable websites that are available. To determine if a website is trustworthy, look for sites published by magazines, beauty companies, or similar establishments that have knowledge in the area of making you look your best.

Most of these tricks are very basic and use items that can already be found in your kitchen cabinet or refrigerator. Many of these remedies are safer than commercial chemical alternatives as well.

One idea is to mix a teaspoon of pure lemon juice with a teaspoon of salt. The lemon causes teeth to loose calcium, which is one of the main reasons that many people have yellow teeth. After making a paste of the lemon juice and salt, rub it onto your teeth and rinse. Another paste involves mixing a little bit of water with a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. This may be rubbed on in the same manner as the lemon paste.

Oranges can be very useful in the whitening process. Rubbing an orange peel (the inner part) onto teeth cleans them up and makes them shine. Mixing dried peel and dried Bay leaves, then using the two as a toothpaste can work wonders as well. Another item you probably have on hand that helps keep teeth white is baking soda, which can be used instead of your toothpaste from time to time. Some companies even offer toothpastes with baking soda already in them.

To keep teeth at their whitest, you should brush twice a day and floss at least once a day. A whitening rinse or mouthwash may prove useful. Avoiding staining foods such as coffee and refraining from nicotine use help to keep teeth clean.
