If you are unfamiliar with electric mobility scooters, yet have a person in your life for whom mobility has become challenging due to illness, or age, then you should learn more about them.

Mobility scooters are personal vehicles, that can have one or two seats. They do not travel at more than a few miles per hour at any given time, so they can never dangerously accelerate, or go out of control. Some of them are motorized, while others run on gas. They usually come with either 3 or 4 wheels. The ones with 3 wheels are often much easier to maneuver than the ones with 4 wheels. Some people prefer 3 wheels over 4 because they can make sharp turns, and get into smaller spaces. Some people prefer 4 wheels over 3 because they feel that 4 wheeled models provide more stability. All of these vehicles will have a soft cushion for comfort, along with flat large foot rests.

Most of these vehicles are somewhat expensive when you buy them brand new. But all of the more basic models are covered by insurance. If you want a model with more modern features like headlights and multiple seats, you might have to dip into your own budget, in addition to the insurance to pay for it.

If you find that the advanced features are things that you or your loved one will need, then you might want to consider purchasing a used mobility scooter. These scooters vary in quality from gently used, to well worn. You have to use your best judgment to find a good source to purchase from.

If you buy from a private seller, you want to make sure that you have the item checked out by someone who is electronically inclined, before you buy the unit as is. There is also the option of purchasing a used model from a company that does professional refurbishments. This is usually a safer option, because they will offer a warranty and repairs for any vehicle that you buy from them.
