Are Almonds Good For You?
Nuts not only taste good but they also contribute greatly to the good health of the body. Different nuts contain a number of different nutrients all of which are beneficial to the body. For instance Brazil nuts contain an essential element known as Selenium which helps stimulate the immune system, improve mental performance and helps the body fight against diseases like Alzheimer. What about almonds?
Are almonds good for you?
Well, almonds are like most nuts, they contain nutrients such as calcium, vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorous, riboflavin, and potassium all of which guard us against infections and diseases. Researchers have also discovered that the outer covering of the almond nuts contains essential nutrients that promote health.
Almonds contain anti-cancerous properties that help protect against cancer. They are also said to contain a small amount of cyanide that helps destroy sickly cells. Other health benefits include, increase of the good cholestrol in our bodies consequently reducing the bad cholestrol, and prevention of heart disease. A daily diet of almonds and veggies not only help in weight loss, it is also said that the body tends to give off a nice vanilla-almond scent.
Are Almonds Fattening?
It is important to know that almonds have a high fat content, an ounce of almonds contains 14grams of fat, and although these nuts contain monosaturated fats, commonly known as the good fats, excessive consumption of almonds can lead to weight gain.
This tasty snack is best consumed raw for greater health benefits. It should also be noted that since almonds have a lot of fats they should not be stored in warm areas because they tend to go stale fast, instead they should be stored in a cool dry place. Slightly roasted almonds should also be consumed immediatly after they have been roasted. Almonds should be consumed by people of all ages, pregnant women and even overweight individuals.
So, Are Almonds Healthy?
In short, yes. Almonds are a great snack that is loaded with all sort of vitamins and nutrients that your body needs. However, since they are a high-fat food, they should only be consumed in moderation. A good gage is to look at the serving size on the back of the packaging. This is usually around 10 almonds or so. Including one serving of almonds in your daily meal plan is a fantastic idea.
